Water Supply and Drainage
The ice machine needs to be supplied with water and drain connections with adequate clearance at the rear before operation. Below are the operating requirements for the ice machine to function properly.

Water Supply Connection
- Locate an appropriate cold water supply line.
- Connect the ice machine water inlet pipe to the household water supply. An easily accessible shut-off valve must be installed between the household water supply and the ice machine.
- From the end of the water inlet pipe, measure and mark 5/8” distance. This is the recommended insertion depth into the water inlet connection.
- Insert the water inlet pipe into the water inlet connection on the ice machine until it reaches the marked depth. Gently pull on the water line to ensure it is fully installed.
- Do not turn on the water supply yet.
NOTE: If the water pressure is below 20 psig, a water shortage error will be displayed on the controls.
- The ice machine includes a polyethylene (PE) water line with a 1/4” OD in 9.5 ft that is NSF certified.
- A 1/4” OD copper water line may also be used, but is sold separately. If using a copper water line, insulate the water inlet pipe to prevent condensation.
Water Supply and Drainage
The ice machine is configured for use with the drain pump by default. If the gravity drain is preferred, the pump needs to be turned off in the controls to properly change the connection.
NOTE: The drain elbow assembly has 360° of adjustability which allows for a flexible installation. The drain elbow assembly also has a 3/8” ID x 9.5 ft reinforced PVC hose pre-installed with a clamp.
Drain Pump Connection
- Unscrew the cap (1) and remove the rubber drain plug (2). Confirm if the drain pump check valve is pre-installed in the proper orientation. The four protruding tabs must face outward from the drain pump connection.
Install the drain elbow assembly onto the drain pump connection. Adjust the drain elbow assembly by loosening the nut on the fitting. Rotate the fitting to the desired angle and then secure it by tightening the nut with a wrench. Be careful not to overtighten the nut.
NOTE: Ensure the maximum vertical height for the hose does not exceed 48”.
- Gently pull on the drain pump hose to confirm secure connection.
- Do not power on the ice machine yet. Ensure the gravity drain connection is properly capped.
Water Supply and Drainage
Air Gap and High Loop Requirement
To prevent contamination of the ice machine, the drain line must be installed to prevent backflow from the building drain system. A air gap or high loop may be required by local plumbing codes. Installations must comply with all applicable local codes and regulations.
When required, use an approved air gap device or install a high loop in the drain hose, secured as high as possible under the countertop.
Water Filter
The Zephyr PRFLTR01 water filter improves taste and reduces odor, while also helping to inhibit scale formation for better ice quality. The filter has a rated capacity of approximately 1,250 gallons (4,730 liters), based on controlled testing conditions. In areas with poor water quality or heavy usage, more frequent replacement may be required.
For practical use, replace the filter based on time:
- Replace every 12 months under normal or low-scale water conditions (this is the default setting)
- Replace every 6 months under high-scale or hard water conditions
- See page 35 for information on changing the replacement reminder from 12 months to 6 months
Replace the water filter if any of the following conditions are observed:
- Reduced water flow or ice production
- Noticeable change in ice taste or odor
- Visible scale buildup inside the unit
For optimal performance, it is recommended that the incoming water Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels be below 400 ppm. Water conditions such as hardness, chlorine content, and sediment may affect filter life and overall performance.

Water Filter: New Installation
To install the water filter in your ice machine, please follow the instructions below:
- Ensure the water supply is turned off.
- Remove the water filter cover by pulling it outward (2).
- Install the water filter by first inserting it into the opening while the arrow on the filter is pointed left. Rotate the filter 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place (3). The arrow should be pointing up (4).
- Gently pull on the water filter to confirm a secure connection.
- Reinstall the water filter cover.
- Turn on the water supply and check for leaks at the back of the ice machine.
- Before powering on the ice machine, ensure all installation checks have been followed (page 33).
Plug in the ice machine and power it on. If the filter is installed incorrectly, a filter warning icon will appear at the top of the display (5).
Leveling the Ice Machine
During installation, it is essential that the ice machine is properly leveled. Failure to properly level the ice machine can negatively affect ice production and performance. Follow the instructions below to adjust the leveling legs:
- Move the ice machine to its final installation location.
- Carefully tilt the ice machine and turn the leveling legs counterclockwise until the tops of the leveling legs make contact with the bottom of the cabinet.
- Slowly rotate the leveling legs clockwise to raise or lower the ice machine as needed. Adjust all the leveling legs evenly until the ice machine is stable.
- Place a spirit level on top of the cabinet, checking side-to-side and front-to-back. Adjust accordingly until the ice machine is level and the bubble is centered.
Anti-Tip Bracket
The anti-tip bracket prevents the ice machine from shifting side-to-side or moving forward and backward. Proper installation helps maintain the unit’s position within the cabinet opening and ensures the overlay panel remains properly aligned with adjacent cabinetry.
Two anti-tip brackets and double-sided tape are provided to accommodate either the left or right side of the unit, depending on the door hinge location. To install the anti-tip bracket, please follow the instructions below:
- Remove the protective film from one side of the double sided-tape.
- Adhere exposed adhesive side of the tape onto the bottom surface of the anti-tip bracket.
- Remove the other protective film from the tape. Open the ice machine door and firmly adhere the double-sided tape onto the front cabinet of the ice machine. Repeat this step with the other bracket.
Slide the unit into the cabinet opening, ensuring no lines are kinked. Secure the anti-tip bracket to adjacent cabinetry with (2) ST4*12 self-tapping screws per bracket, (4) screws total.
Installation Checklist
Before operating the ice machine for the first time, please complete the following checks to ensure proper installation and performance:
- Remove all tape and protective packaging from the interior and exterior.
- Wipe clean the exterior of the ice machine.
- All components, such as the overlay panel, door handle, and magnetic kickplate, have been properly installed.
- Ensure the ice machine is properly leveled from side-to-side and front-to-back.
- Verify the water inlet pipe is connected securely and free of leaks.
- Confirm the drain connection is properly installed.
- Drain Pump: Ensure the drain pump check valve is properly installed.
- Drain Pump: Ensure the drain hose does not exceed a 48 inch vertical rise or a 100 foot run.
- Gravity Drain: Ensure the drain elbow is horizontal or angled downwards and the drain hose slopes downwards by 1/4 inch every 1 foot.
- Gravity Drain: Disable the drain pump by opening the advanced settings interface, selecting Drain Pump, and setting it to Off.
- Verify the water filter is installed and is seated in its proper orientation.
- Confirm if the water supply valve is fully open.
- Confirm the ice machine is plugged into a NEMA 5-15 grounded receptacle on a dedicated circuit.
- Wipe down the ice bin interior with a cleaning cloth soaked in a bleach and water solution. A sanitization solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water is recommended.
- Ensure all internal components are properly positioned. Refer to pages 43-45.
- The air intake vents on the front kickplate are not restricted.
- Pour 16 ounces of water into the ice bin and allow the system to run for 5 minutes. Verify there are no leaks near the drain connections.
- Power on the ice machine and ensure there are no errors on the display.
- Discard the first batch of ice, which should be ready within 45 minutes.
